The Centre for Samoan Studies held a National University of Samoa Special Screening of the ‘Mele Murals’ Film on Wednesday 22 March 2017. The screening was co-sponsored by the US Embassy Apia, Samoa.

The documentary is about ‘the transformative  power of modern graffiti art and ancient Hawaiian culture for a new generation of Native Hawaiians.’ Acting in the film are artists Estria Miyashiro (Estria) and John Hina (Prime), a group of Native Hawaiian charter-school youth and the rural community of Waimea, dealing with the ill effects of environmental changes and encroaching modernisation on their native culture.
