The National University of Samoa hosted the Second Pacific Islands University Research Network (PIURN) 2016. The conference was from the 19 – 21 of September.
The theme of this PIURN conference was ‘Addressing the Challenges and Sustainability in the Pacific Islands’. The programme started off with the Welcome and official opening on the first day, where the opening address was done by Honourable Fiame Naomi Mata’afa Mulinuu II, Samoa’s Deputy Prime Minister. The keynote speakers were Professor Chalapan Kaluwin (Environmental Science and Geography Discipline, School of Natural and Physical Science, UNPG), Dr Cresantia Frances Koya Vaka’uta (Associate Dean Research & Internationalization, Faculty of Arts Law & Education, The University of the South Pacific, Suva Fiji Islands) and Fiu Mataese Elisara, (O le Siosiomaga Society Inc [OLSSC] Samoa.)
The three day conference ended with the closing address by Professor Fui Leapai Tuua Ilaoa Asofou Soo, Vice Chancellor of the National University of Samoa.
